Economic and Commercial Diplomacy Advisory Group (ECDAG)

Our Advisory Groups provide invaluable support to IBDE to ensure we play an important and unique role in promoting international trade and investment flows, championing economic and commercial diplomacy as well as provide an inclusive platform to help inform international trade and investment policy and decision making.
The role of ECDAG is to advise and support the IBDE Board and the Executive on policies, strategies and activities in pursuit of IBDE’s mission and objectives. In addition, the ECDAG brainstorms, reviews, discusses, and offers insights into major themes and policy priorities for the IBDE work programme. The IBDE Management works closely with ECDAG leadership and its members to host, chair and speak at IBDE meetings.

Chaired by Virginia Murray, Minister Counsellor for Economic Affairs at the Embassy of the United States in the UK, ECDAG brings together heads of economic, trade and commercial affairs of diplomatic missions, senior civil servants and business leaders.

Members of the ECDAG are nominated by the Board, the Chair of ECDAG or the Chief Executive. Appointments are made by the Board. We welcome expression of interest from Corporate Senior Directors / Partners. For more details please contact membership@ibde.org

How to get involved

IBDE serves chiefly two sets of members: business and diplomatic communities. In addition, IBDE provides services for trade associations, non-governmental organisations and academic institutions that have an interest in and impact on international trade and investment, diplomacy, and economic policy, hence, involving a wider group of stakeholders.

We work closely with our members. Building on our established relationships with our corporate partners, diplomatic community, and government senior officials we help inform international trade and investment policy and decision-making.

With business leaders and diplomats steering our agenda through our advisory and workings groups, and with a diverse input from our members, our activities provide a unique environment to discuss policy issues relevant to governments and international business.

Members perceive IBDE as unique in its ability to bring together senior executives with senior members of the diplomatic community, as well as provide a 'safe space' to engage on topical issues impacting markets and foster collective action on global issues critical to its mission.

Through a wide range of programmes, including Chair's and CEO’s business briefings and other high-level meetings with government ministers and diplomats our members play an active role in informing and shaping the IBDE agenda.

In addition to key benefits, members enjoy access to expertise and insight (offered through our events), from the prominent members of our Leadership Council, the Economic and Commercial Diplomacy Advisory Group and Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Group.

In 2019, IBDE won the first Award presented to an organisation for the Outstanding Contribution to Economic Diplomacy. The Award was voted for by the international diplomatic community.

IBDE prides itself on its existing prestigious platform of members and is determined to maintain its high standard as the organisation expands its membership base.
